Venture capitalist Nick Beim has made early investments in and served on the boards of some of the top Internet and software companies in recent years, including Gilt Groupe, Care.com, Intent Media, TheLadders.com, Conductor, JBoss, and OatSystems. Currently a Partner at Venrock in New York, Nick Beim focuses on identifying and investing in promising ventures in the Internet, mobile, SaaS, big data, and financial technology sectors. Beim previously was a General Partner at Matrix Partners.
Beim's investments include JBoss, an open-source application service vendor that was acquired by Red Hat for $420 million. More recently, he led a $40 million investment in the Gilt Groupe Inc., an online retailer that specializes in luxury clothes whose value in 2011 was pegged at $1 billion.
Before he joined Matrix Partners in 2000, Nick Beim worked at Goldman, Sachs & Company in its High Technology Investment Banking Group. As a Senior Associate, he advised clients, mostly technology companies, on financing and M&As. Before that, Beim worked for McKinsey & Company from 1996 to 1998, contributing to strategy and investment studies that focused on the technology, media, and financial services sectors. Nicholas Beim began his career with the U.S. Agency for International Development as a Media Project Officer, providing assistance and guidance to media organizations overseas in Eastern Europe.
