They are areas of transition between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, where water is the main regulator of physical, chemical and biological processes. They can be fresh, brackish or salt water, permanent or temporary. As a main feature, its depth at low tide never exceeds six meters. The swamps, marshes, rivers, estuaries, deltas, mangroves, and even coral reefs, are wetlands.
