Lake Saumatre ‘Salty water at one end and Fresh water at the another end’ |
|
Lake Saumatre is the largest salt water lake of Haiti, which is home for the beautiful local fauna and flora. It has an intense blue shade and hundreds of species of American crocodiles, flamingos and waterfowl. It is fantastic travel spot as it is one of the few lakes to harbor such a wide variety of fauna. Lake Saumatre is skirted by cacti plants and brush. It is located 22 kilometers away from Port-au-Prince towards Eastern end, on the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac. It is known as Azuei Lake in Haiti and its earlier Taino name was Yainagua. |
