A Need to Know Beginners Guide to Solar Power
|
Now, I like winter but I do not like the fact that I will have to pay a lot of money to heat my home because it is cold out. This year I have been trying to do some things around the house to keep the warm air in and the cold air out and I decided to share 3 tips that I have been doing to help me with that. These are tips that if you implement them now, you should be able to reduce you heating bills this winter. Caulk your windows and doors. This is one of the major things you can do to help keep heat in because most of the cold air that rushes into your house is through leaky window and door frames. If your windows are fairly new you may just be able to get away with caulking around the window sill but if your windows are older and really drafty, you may have to improvise.
There are kits you can get from your local hardware store that help to cover drafty windows. You can also do what many people do and cover your windows with sheets of plastic and some blankets to help keep drafts out. It may look a little weird at first, but you can really save some money on your heating bills by closing off drafty windows like this. Wear some warm clothes even when you are inside. Winter is a cold time of year and you should bundle up a little even when you are inside. The way I do it is I keep my thermostat at about 60 degrees all winter and just wear a sweater and some fuzzy slippers when I am at home. This has helped me to cut down on my fuel bill a little, but when it is really cold outside it can be a pain to get through.
