A board-certified general surgeon with a professional record spanning nearly 40 years, Dr. Pedro Kuri obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1975. After obtaining board certification, Dr. Pedro Kuri went on to complete a residency at the National Medical Center in Mexico City before relocating to Baja California.
Dr. Kuri served as a general surgeon at Tijuana Baja California Hospital No. 20 from 1981 to 1984 before transferring to Tijuana General Hospital. His accomplishments as the chairman of surgery led to increasing levels of responsibility, culminating in a position as chairman of the division of surgery before his departure in 1992. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Dr. Kuri remained on faculty as a senior instructor at the University of Baja School Of Medicine until 2000.
Developing a focus in bariatric surgery, Dr. Kuri pursued specialized training in the BioEnterics Lap-Band procedure before establishing Dr. Kuri & Associates in Tijuana in 1998. As the lead laparoscopic surgeon, he has personally overseen some 5,500 Lap-Band procedures.
