A former Outstanding Student Athlete for the University of Utah, Dr. Lonnie Paulos is currently one of the world's leading orthopedic sports surgeons. His collegiate athletic career served as a major impetus for his decision to become a knee surgeon. As a Defensive Captain for the University of Utah football team, Dr. Paulos sustained a tear to his medial collateral ligament, which did not heal effectively. The premed major decided to figure out a better way to treat such injuries.
Following graduation with his B.S. in Zoology, Dr. Lonnie Paulos earned his M.D. from the University of Utah School of Medicine and then completed a general internship and specialized residency in orthopedic surgery. He subsequently undertook fellowships at the Atlanta Sports Medicine Foundation, Inc., and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Over the next 30 years, Dr. Paulos developed the skills and knowledge to become a foremost authority in his field.
