One of the fastest growing urban centres in India, Indore is the largest city in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Though Bhopal is the state capital and the hub of all government and political activity, Indore is regarded as the commercial hotspot of the state. Indore holds some interesting sightseeing options like the temple circuit consisting of Khajrana, Kaanch and Bada Ganpati temples. Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra. Pune has several places of interests like Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Shrimant Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Temple, Osho Park, Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Shaniwar Wada, Sinhgad Fort, Saras Baug, Sadhu Vaasvani Mission and Katraj Jain Temple. Indore lies at a distance of 583 km from Pune. It takes around 9 hours and 30 minutes to cover this distance on road. Daily flights belonging to airlines like Indigo, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, and Spice jet connect Indore to Pune daily. The cost of the flight ticket is around Rs 3000 onwards. The flight time from Indore to Pune is around 1 hour. The Pune International Airport is about 10 km from the city. Hiring a taxi or an auto rickshaw to reach the city centre will prove to be both economical and time saving.
The more economical way to travel from Indore to Pune is by train. The most convenient and fastest train is the non-stop Duronto Express train from Delhi that has a stop at Indore and reaches Pune Junction in about 12 hours. This train runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The trains that daily from Indore to Pune are Indore Pune Express, Goa Express and Jhelum Express. The other trains that connect Indore and Pune are Hazrat Nizammuddin-CSTM Kohlapur Express, Nizammuddin-Mysore Swarnajayanthi Express, and Karnataka Sampark Kranthi Express. An average sleeper berth costs Rs. 350 and a three tier AC berth costs Rs 900. Pune Junction railway station is around 3 km away from the city and can be reached by an auto rickshaw or cab. Buses are also available from Indore to Pune in all categories like Volvo, AC, Non AC, AC Seater and AC Sleeper. Hiring a cab from Indore to Pune is also an option. Though not a practical way to travel the long distance, the cab ride would cost anything from Rs. 8000 to Rs. 10000 one way depending on the type of car you have hired. Driving your own car is also an option if you like driving. The roads are wide and the best and four lined in some stretches. One passes through major towns like Dewas, Mhow, Malegaon, Nasik, and finally terminating in Pune. You could make a few pit stops at some of the historical cities like Nasik and Dewas on the way.
