When the deadlines at work become the theme song of your nightmares almost every other night, then you know Kathmandu is where you need to be. And why Kathmandu, you ask? Well, this capital city of Nepal will give you plenty of reasons that make you think ‘why not’. For instance, take the ice-covered view of Himalayas from here which seems close enough to touch especially from the window of your bargain flights to Kathmandu. Or the balanced urban development that leaves enough room for the local flora and fauna to flourish here in full bloom. All this makes Kathmandu one of a kind travel destination where you can follow that natural mirage and take some rest whenever you feel worn out in the urban comfort that envelopes the city.
The tourism industry of Kathmandu mainly revolves around nature and culture. The local architecture includes a lot of revered pilgrim centers that are visited by tourists via cheap flights to Kathmandu from all over the world for both aesthetic and religious reasons. The Buddha Neelkanth Temple, a popular temple dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu is visited by tons of devotees and tourists throughout the year where one get to see the statue of Lord Vishnu engraved in a sleeping position. Its premises are surrounded by water thus rendering a refreshing vibe to this aesthetically pleasing temple. One may as well call Kathmandu the temple city since you can find one at every other step. Taleju Temple, Narayan Temple, Indrapur Temple, Mahendreswar Temple and Shiva Temple are few of the lesser known temples here that may be lacking in size and popularity but are definitely worth a visit.
If you want to view the local architecture come alive then visit Kathmandu during the festival season that practically lasts throughout the year here. Bikram Sambat's New Year's is celebrated around April here to mark the beginning of New Year. The locals chant that midnight count down and welcome the New Year with both the locals and the friendly visitors who just joined them after de-boarding their discounted flights to Kathmandu. Then there are Teej and Deepavali that are commemorated around the same time and with same sentiments as in India but with much more dedication and subtlety. For the Coachella music festival fans out there, the Himalayan Blues Festival surely seems enticing with its picturesque venues such as Garden of Dreams and the Patan Museum. And the city likes to call it a year with Dashain festival, celebrated around November for the whole 15 days on a national level with great pomp and show.
