Posted: November 24, 2020 |
With so many pollutants floating around, it's important to maintain your air conditioning system by changing the filter regularly. Filters get clogged up with dust and debris and become less effective over time. Most air manufacturers recommend replacing air conditioning filters once every 30-60 days. This guide will show you how. 1. Turn the power offTurning the power off both at the unit and at the circuit breaker protects yourself and the unit. 2. Locate the filterYour air conditioning filter will be near the furnace, usually by the return air duct or the furnace's blower system. If you're struggling to find it, you can contact an HVAC contractor, such as air conditioning Tauranga, to help. 3. Remove the old filterYou may have to open a small door to access the filter. While holding the filter from both sides, it should slide out with a gentle pull. 4. Check the conditionIt's good practice to check if the filter actually needs replacing before going ahead. You don't want to spend money on new filters you don't need! A good trick is to hold the filter up to a light to see how clogged it is. If you can't see much light coming through, it probably needs replacing. 5. Safe disposalUsed filters can contain all sorts of pollutants so you should put them in a sealed bag before putting them in the trash. 6. Make sure you have the correct replacementAir conditioning filters come in different sizes. The size you need can usually be found on the side of the old filter or in the user's manual. If you can't find the measurements here, contact air conditioning Tauranga to help find the right size. 7. Insert new filterMake sure you insert the new filter in the same way you removed the old one. There's usually an arrow showing the direction of airflow to remind you which way to put it in. The filter should be a snug fit so check for gaps and looseness as you may have the wrong size.
