Google Knocked On Our Door and Storeboard Needs To Make Some Changes! Posted: January 25, 2014 |
Yesterday I received an email from Google stating that Storeboard is essentially being blacklisted due to certain content and improper backlinks. Now, if there is one thing we have never really concerned ourselves with, its SEO, backlinks, rigging Google, etc. We really know very little about it and we put our time and energy into programming, making the site work better adding features. The problem is that Google has a lot of power not just to control search results - if it was just that I could live with it but the ranking it assigns a site influences millions of individuals and companies who determine where to post based on Google's assessment. In other words, if Google says thumbs down to a site, it has consequences. So I started to think about the letter and what to do. I have always wanted to allow people to say what they want, promote what they want, and post what they want on Storeboard with minimal exceptions. However, I can't ignore Google and I think there are going to be some benefits to moderating the content of Storeboard more than we have done previously. So I am introducing a formal list of postings that will be deleted and disallowed from hereonin. We are also going to consider creating a promotional blogs section to distinguish it from more serious, thoght provoking blogs. Here is the initial list and it will be posted this week separate and distinct from this blog. Postings that match the description on this list will be deleted: 1. Postings that are unintelligible. 2. Postings that are written without any adherence to the rules of grammar and are only posted with the motivation of promoting a product. 3. Postings promoting medication for Erectile Disfunction. 4. Postings promoting Escorts, Prostitution, Porn, etc. 5. Postings promoting Online Gambling. 6. Postings for Fake Bags, NFL Jerseys, Shoes, Jackets, etc. Alright - that's the initial list. We are going to make the list and our policies accessible and part of our terms and conditions. Storeboard will continue to modify the list and the policies in the future. Please feel free to Contact Us and express your opinion and give us your input. Thanks for participating on Storeboard. We will continue to work diligently on the site and creating a great user experience in line with our Guiding Principles.
