There are different types of skiing of which alpine or downhill skiing is the most popular among the ski resorts.
Downhill skiing / Alpine skiing: This is the most common skiing provided by ski resorts where you get into the uphill using a ski lift and then ski downhill. The steepness of the slopes of uphill and downhill can be varying with respect to the difficulty levels. Downhill skiing can be performed by both beginners or experts depending upon the difficulty level of the downhill. T-Bar Ski Lifts are usually preferred for riding uphill before alpine skiing. Backcountry skiing: Backcountry skiing is skiing in a less explored and more wilder or challenging / unexpected terrains. Ski mountaineering is also different or tougher backcountry skiing where you have to walk or climb uphill by yourself and ski downhill from the mountain.
Cross Country skiing: Cross country skiing is usually skiing through a flat surface using flexible boots and heels unattached to the skis.
Freestyle Skiing: Freestyle skiing is mainly done while downhill skiing, where here skiers perform twists or jumps that are quite fascinating for the viewers.
Adaptive skiing: Adaptive skiing is skiing done by a person with disability, where it can be downhill, cross-country or whichever terrain is preferable by the person.
