Once you have determined your website needs and start looking around for someone to do the job for you, you’ll soon find that there are a multitude of web development firms out there. Choosing the right one may prove to be a trickier task than you had previously anticipated, so how do you make the final decision on such an immensely important job? These are some of the questions you should be asking.
Are the Past Clients Satisfied?
Of course you’ll want a company with a solid reputation, so have a look through their portfolio, search for those clients on Google and spend some time navigating through those sites – do they seem user-friendly to you? Don’t be shy to ask for references as well so that you can actually contact these previous clients and ask for their honest feedback.
Where are they Based and do they Outsource?
You will want to have constant communication throughout the duration of the project so if the web development digital agency is not based within your home country, you will need assurance that the lines of communication will be open – will differences in time zones affect this?
Furthermore, if you select a local agency, find out whether they have their own in-house team or whether they outsource to a team overseas. And in the case of outsourcing, will you be able to contact the team directly?
What is Included?
Find out exactly what the entire project encompasses. If you have someone else working on your web design, will this company work in conjunction with the designer? It seems logical to rely on a single agency to tend to all your needs so that there is no confusion and no difference in the core goals of setting up your website.
Once your website is up and running, will they provide ongoing maintenance and support in the events that something goes wrong or that you needfurther assistance? It is also important to determine whether or not they aid in public relations, integrating social media, analysing data, email campaigns, SEO, branding, advertising and the like. Of course, this also depends on your individual needs.
Will I have Ownership of the Code?
If not, you may be limited in terms of making your own changes in real-time and so would have to contact the firm in order to make substantial changes. This may also mean that if your circumstances were to change for whatever reason, you wouldn’t be able to “take” the solution and host it independently.
This is not necessarily an unfavourable option: the developers will be much better equipped to make the desired changes swiftly and with ease, it just comes down to your personal website development needs.
