What We Resist, Persists
“When we argue with reality, we lose. But only 100% of the time." - Byron Katie
Are you happy where you are? Do you like your current reality? Or -like most of us- do you hate your problems and maybe your life?
Ok, so LOVING your reality may be a tough ask, but ever consider accepting your current reality vs resisting or arguing against it?
Do you think accepting problems means you give them your approval? Let me be clear: It absolutely does not. [This is also a common impediment to forgiving.]
Resisting problems is actually making them stronger. Liken it to lifting weights; resistance builds strength. Do you want your problems to get stronger?
WE THINK OUR RESISTANCE IS PROTECTING US. Think again.
Our resisitance is protecting the problem.
Put another way, we are protecting our past. All those crap-filled moments you say you want to forget..... sorry, Peaches, but resisting them is actually keeping them safe.
Acceptance and surrender [vs resisting] allows you to assume a calm state of mind. This frees you to respond, not react.
-Responding allows you to make choices that actually DO serve you.
-Responding also creates the space to be grateful for the crap.
Not what you want to do, right? Me neither....
Look, the crap happened. By wishing it didn’t -resisting it- we hold the hope of somehow erasing its existence. We can pretend somehow there is a possibility to go back in time to change it.
So let me first applaud your creative imagination...now let’s talk turkey:
-You use a LOT of energy chasing this illusion that things can be different.
-Labeling a past experience stops you from seeing the opportunity it presents.
You can never be free of what you don't want.
This tug of war with your past stops when you let go of the rope.
Or as Rumi says, “The moment you accept what troubles you’ve been given, the door will open.”
Ball's in your court, Boss.
