Sssh..It's a Secret |

Sssh..It's a Secret I hate secrets. Hate what they hide, hate what they do to us, hate what they do to others... I've heard some folks say they keep secrets to protect their loved ones. I agree, there's protecion involved, but let's tell the truth. Not that I don't get that....I get it all too well. It took me 40 years to say out loud my father is an alcoholic. [Half that time was realizing it, myself.] I was keeping the secret. But I wasn't protecting him--I didn't even live near him. I was protecting me. Took me even longer to admit my husband's abuse and my own addictive behavior. I was keeping the secret. And again, protecting me and my image. Secrets let you stay in a false comfort zone. It's hard to see that so-called comfort zone is really killing you.
If I don't see it. I don't have to do anything about it. Apparently I'd rather sit in my misery than try something different. Can you hear the ego whispering, "Don't try something new--it could be worse! Better to stick with what you know..." Which is why Emerson said, "Most men lead lives of quiet desparation." I wonder...do you even know what you DO want? Might be a good place to start.....
