Sermons about stewardship are often a great way to strengthen a sermon topic. There is a large body of scriptural teachings that talk about how one's life is intertwined with the things that happen around them. A common thread through most of these scriptural passages is that the people of God must care for the world they live in and for those who live in the world. While this is a good message, the one thing that all these sermons about stewardship tend to have in common is that they tend to put a greater emphasis on the part of God in their lives, rather than the part of the world in which they function.
In her book A Biblical Woman's Guide to Living Healthy, Rebekah Rexrode takes a look at how people view the part of God in their lives. She begins the book by looking at the way that the early church dealt with its members. One of the things that she thinks we have lost sight of in our contemporary culture is that the early church was able to provide an example of true stewardship. The early church did not shy away from telling its followers that they needed to care for the world, or even the things that happened to them and to other people.
The idea of stewardship is one that many Christians do not associate with the religion, because it is not a very common teaching. However, anyone who follows the teachings of the Bible would immediately understand what this concept means. Jesus used the parable of the rich man as an illustration of how one should live. He said that whoever wants to be saved will lose their wealth overnight, and in order to avoid this happening, a person would need to become very wise.
In fact, many of the earlier Christian fathers took the parable of the rich man very literally. They felt that a person must be very careful in the things that they did in order to remain safe and prosperous in this world. They saw the parable as a warning about things that needed to be watched over. They knew that it was necessary to be very careful in the things that they did. Jesus also told us in several other places that if we will enter into God's throne room, we would indeed find security.
It is important that we do just that. We need to watch over the things that we do, whether we are ourselves or not. If we do not manage our stewardship properly, we would find that our financial status would decline, and we would not be able to enjoy the luxury that comes with prosperity. It would be easy to get caught up in this idea of financial gain without the love of serving. Therefore, we should go into this life with true spiritual commitment and make sure that we understand the principles of true stewardship.
A good way to learn about stewardship is to consider how Jesus Christ acted towards his apostles and followers. He had a great concern for them and he gave them great encouragement. He reminded them often of how much they must love the Lord before they could fulfill their responsibility to him. There are many examples of how he would speak to his apostles regarding this matter, and if you study these seeds of wisdom, you can eventually apply them to your own life.
