Alloy steels castings are increasingly taking over the market owing to its properties which are better than the regular varieties. In most steel mills one can easily find duplex steel because of the sudden rise of the demand for this type of steel. Duplex steel is a combination of both ferrite and austenite in a ratio so that the disadvantages of both can be avoided. In itself, these compounds are good enough but have certain drawbacks, which can be avoided in duplex steel.

Why is it in demand?

The increase in demand for the duplex variety of steel has taken off in the past twelve to thirteen years. This was partly due to several types of research being done in this field, which led to more people knowing about duplex steel and its advantages.

Steel these days are used in several complicated applications and sometimes a simple ferrite or austenite compound doesn't cut the job. Therefore, duplex steel is demanded such purposes.

What are its properties?

1. Strength: The duplex steel variety is stronger than the single compounds. Because of the equal ratio of both the popular compounds of steel in this chemical compound, the PS is 400-500 MPa. This combination makes the steel have a section that is less thick and reduces the weight of the compound as well. This is a very important requirement when building bridges or storage tanks, as the heavy material is harder to work within such structures.
2. Toughness: This variety of steel is far tougher than the single compounds; they do well even under extreme pressures. Even when temperatures are as low as minus eighty degrees, the steel resists and doesn't contract as much as single compounds would. Various structures require this property which is why they demand duplex steel over others.
3. Resistance: One of the primary reasons for using steel over iron is due to its resistant property. However, single compound steel doesn't always demonstrate the required amount of resistance. Duplex steel is resistant to pressure and doesn't crack or corrode easily. It can be safely used in structures like deep swimming pools, where corrosion is an issue. Even in water tanks or industrial plants, resistant to heat or pressure is a primary requirement.

What the future holds:

According to statistics, duplex steel has been dominating the market since 2016, and the prediction is that the percentage will continue to increase over the years. This steel is highly demanded by oil companies for their tubes and storage tanks. Even when there is offshore drilling of oil, duplex steel pipes ensure safety from oil spillage due to its resistant properties. Strong chemicals can easily be stored in tanks made from duplex steel, and there is no danger of corrosion. As oil and chemical industries grow, the demand for duplex steel will grow as well.

Newer and better technologies are being discovered every day, but there is always the problem of finding a material strong enough to withstand them. Alloy steel castings are the solution to all the problems industries like oil, chemicals, and infrastructure had faced so far.
