Governor Chris Christie's Problems Grow |
Posted: January 19, 2014 |
The past ten days for Governor Chris Christie have been a nightmare for this Republican rising star and may end his political ascension. Christie was widely considered the front runner for the Republican nomination for Presidential nomination for 2016 but several stories have emerged that suggest Christie is not fit to be President of the United States. By his own admission, his staff ordered the shutdown of lanes running to the George Washington Bridge as political payback to the Mayor of Fort Lee, NJ (where the entrance to the George Washington Bridge which leads to New York City). Now he has hired legal counsel in an attempt to block access to internal documents such as email, etc. that the Press wants to see to determine if he, in fact, did not know anything about this as he claims. To add insult to injury, Bruce Springsteen, Christie's music idol, sang with Jimmy Fallon mocking the Governor. Now this is another very interesting story since it possibly explains President Obama's Presidential victory. Christie has attended about 150 Springsteen concerts during his lifetime and Springsteen (aka "The Boss" and very much a NJ deity), a devout Democrat, always rebuffed any attempt by the Governor to meet him. But just when Obama was being accused of failing to work with Republicans and on the heels of Hurricane Sandy, a meeting with The Boss was arranged. Obama came to New Jersey, donned the same jacket as Christie (creating a visual that they are on the same team) and then met with Christie and guess who else was there? That's right - Obama set up a meeting with Christie and Springsteen and then for good measure took Christie on Air Force One. Some people claim that this actually threw the election and was the reason Obama won. Would Chrisite have complimented Obama and stood side by side with him without the Springsteen introduction? Who knows but it worked and the rest it history. Well back to adding insult to injury. Here is the video tape: Springsteen and Fallon Sing Born To Run with a few words changed to make fun of Christie. Now today, Hoboken's Mayor, Dawn Zimmer came out to say that she was told that Hurrican Sandy relief for her city was tied to the approval of the Rockefeller Group proposal for a 40 story office tower in Hoboken. Big problem because Dawn Zimmer oozes with integrity and kept detailed notes and a diary of her interactions with a top Christie aide who told her although it's not fair, it's reality. The Rockefeller Group is known to have very close ties to the Governor. This resulted in this image in the Daily News today:
Further revelations of Christies insistance that he and his family appear in various television commercials about New Jersey's comeback from Hurricane Sandy have also surfaced. They suggest that despite additional costs of millions of dollars, Christie insisted on appearing in the commercials. These stories all suggest that Christie and his staff tried to intimidate other leaders if they didn't do as he said, punish ones that didn't, tie govenernment aide to political favors, and put himself above the people who elected him. Making matters worse is his reputation as a bully. It is not looking good for Christie in 2016. When it come to the President of the United States, these types of problems tend to be fatal.
