The philanthropic arm of IKEA Group, IKEA Foundation has partnered with India Development Foundation and United Nations Development Program to train women and let them make a career in the retail sector. Telangana Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, Jupally Krishna Rao was present at an inauguration ceremony where a program was launched under Disha for women who belong to Telangana. If this pilot project is considered as successful, it will be expanded to states like NCR, Maharashtra, Karnataka, etc.The overall aim of Disha program is to skill build about 1 million women in over 10 industries by developing core competencies of women and let them get employed. The CEO of IKEA India, JuvencioMaeztu stated that the company has a non-negotiable commitment to employ at least 50 percent women co-workers in its stores at all levels and it believes that Disha is a great opportunity that allows it to connect with more women in Telangana and make them a part of IKEA’s India journey. Jupally Krishna Rao expressed hope that many other organizations come forward to join hands like IKEA, and skill build more Indian women so that they can join the workforce. The CEO of IKEA Foundation, Per Heggenes said that people associated with IKEA truly believe that women are most important catalysts for change in any family.
