EDM, as a music genre, has come a long way since it evolved from disco music. And in these decades of existence, several artists have, over the years, released an electrifying album that took the world by a storm. In recent years, superstars like Skrillex and Deadmau5 have been significant drivers in the growth and popularity of the EDM genre. Though before they started their careers, there have been several legends that had made the EDM sound very unique.

There are several sub-genres in EDM, making it one of the most versatile genres of music in the world. This variety of similar yet peculiar music forms has brought about the release of several musical albums. We will be taking a look at the best collections ever, in this post.

Make ‘em Mokum Crazy, 1996

This album is of the genre gabber, and what makes it stand out is its speed. It is the favorite genre of Dutch drug users who like speed-taking the drugs. In the gabber genre, there is always the premise of the techno genre, which is then blown out of proportions, coupled with some metal riffs and irregular kicks at around 180 beats per minute. This gives the style a violent vibe.

This album was the crux of this genre.

Selected Ambient Works 85 – 92, 1992

This album was released in the second month of 1992 by the Aphex Twins, and it is nowhere near being what the theme suggested. There are wild songs on the album, including the likes of "Xtal” and “Green Calx" these songs feature rolling break-beats and some thundering of the drums. However, some songs on the album that point in a different direction, especially "Tha” that seemed almost without percussion instrument.

Sang by brothers, Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin is the first full-length studio work by the duo. This album was built on the innovation shown in the Aphex twins' actions that came with uniquely arranged sounds to form a perfect tune. It is through the music of Michael and Marcus, known as the Boards of Canada that IDM as a sub-genre of EDM, came into the mainstream.

Kings of Drum + Bass

This album is based on the Drum and Bass genre of EDM that slightly takes after DUbstep. It was initially referred to as jungle when it started in the 90s, and fast and slow intermittent instrumentations characterized it. The dynamics are unique, and it can leave the listeners both jittery and calm at the same time. Of all the various albums produced on the drum and bass genre, the Kings of Drum + Bass stood out.

Northern exposure

This album was sag by Sasha and John Digweed in 1997, and it was one fantastic journey the duo took the listeners on when the album was released. It documents the pastoral landscapes of the '90s, and it was a perfect journey through time. The most popular tracks on the album were "Rainery" and "Out of Body Experience."
