What About the Leftovers? |
Posted: November 23, 2012 |
Are you stuffed? Do you want to run screaming if someone says the word “turkey”? What ARE you going to do with all those Thanksgiving leftovers? [Just how many ways can you disguise those sweet potatoes?] You’ll find a way, though..you always have.
Many times we enjoy the leftovers even more than the original dinner. Ever wonder about that? Sometimes it’s because you are relaxed. Family is gone. No expectations. Just you, the turkey and the mashed potatoes. [ok, the gravy can come, too] Sometimes it’s because leftovers are what we think we deserve. Ouch. Ever settle for leftovers when you wanted the Real Deal? We do it all the time, and not just with dinner…with jobs, relationships, lifestyle, activities, emotions… [I know you hoped this was gonna be a post about food. It is…sorta…] I just want you to be a little more AWARE when you make choices. Just like unconscious eating will pack on the pounds, unconscious thinking will pack on the dysfunction. And before you know it, you’re asking, “how did THAT happen?” Nothing at all wrong with leftovers, if you consciously choose them. If you eat them when you really don’t want them, that’s not so good. Stop the mindless drifting. Pay attention to your life this week…is it filled with leftovers that you didn’t really want? And watch out for sanctimonious sacrificing [I got up at 4 am to cook the turkey]… people seldom appreciate it the way you’d hoped. It turns into martyrdom and hidden resentment VERY QUICKLY. Put that drumstick down and choose again. Choose you.
