5 Of The Weirdest Garden Decorations That Will Freak Out Your Guests |

If you’re not one for traditional gardens with amazing, neat rows of flowers or zen gardens with white landscapes of rocks, this might be of interest. If you definitely aim to make your guests flinch and raise their eyebrows rather than gasp in awe, then this definitely will be of some interest. A bit of weird humour can go a long way, since most people are probably sick of seeing pink flamingoes. A garden is a large space that you can definitely utilise in any way you want. Having a garden that stands out (not because of how unkempt it is, of course) can be a source of pride and if it’s a freaky one, you can throw in some chuckles in there.
1. Half-submerged Objects/Characters The freak factor is high when you enter a garden and accidentally bump your toe against a rock zombie trying to climb out of the ground. It’s a given. If you want to add a subtle decor to your garden that will have guests only noticing after a fright (when it’s too late), then zombies are the way to go. If you want something funny, place the lower half of a digging animal figure, like a dog with its tail wagging in the air.
2. Unknown/Freaky Creature Garden Sculptures The more unrecognizable it is, the higher the freak factor. Strange or mythical creatures are a good range to choose from, and a few trips to antique shops or specialty stores will guarantee that you can find a good, unusual statue. If you want the cheap and easy way, get a superhero cardboard pop-up and place it just behind bushes or garden storage sheds for sale to ‘peek out’ at guests. Batman’s watching out for crime.
3. Venus Fly Traps Kids fear it, adults (sort of) want to touch it. Having a row of venus fly traps not only keeps the fly population down around your garden, but can also make guests flinch when they notice it. They’ll also worry about getting too close. It’s a live, moving plant that has scary (albeit a little wiggly) looking ‘teeth’. Most kids will probably just scream and run away. Which can be good for some people.
4. Unusual Pots Though this is more of a design tip, using unusual items as pots (shoes, old bathtubs and even toilets) just look strange and can stop people in their tracks. Even more so if there are flowers growing in them, which can be quite pretty and unique at the same time. Or for spontaneity, just leave it there in the middle of your garden. Experiment with different items, or you can take it a step further by decorating your bland, average pots.
If all else fails, just bail and buy a signpost for your garden. Garden decoration shouldn’t be too hard, and if it reflects your sense of humour and aesthetic, then you’ve already done a great job.
