You may not fall in love with a particle board with a first look, but nevertheless they are affordable and sustainable. The simple particle board is a poor brother of actual wood, but they work great for décor. Want to know some great tips to paint your particle board. Tip 1: Particle board is not genuinely wood, but composed of left over particles of wood, such as wood shavings and even saw dust. As it is not authentic wood, it is weaker than wood and vulnerable to moisture which can cause the board to expand and become malformed; it is covered with a kind of laminate that protects it from moisture. Tip 2: Hence, before you paint the particle board, you have to take out the outer laminate first. So, how can you do this without hurting your particle board? Remove the skin of the wood with a 120-grit sandpaper. This will ensure you remove the layer without actually destroying it. Tip 3: Before proceeding to the next step, allow the primer to dry completely for it to successfully work. Before you get all creative with paint, ensure that the surface is clean and free from dust or else the primer will not stick properly or else you might have to re-apply it. Primers come in either more traditional bucket form, or a convenient spray form. Tip 4: The imperfections left behind by the primer can be removed with a 200-220-grit sandpaper. Now, comes a time you have all been waiting for - painting the particle board. You do not require any kind of specific paint you need to use. You can choose between oil-based or water-based paint. This is a personal and artistic decision you need to take a call on. Raw edges, such as a cut edge where the loose wood particles are visible require the sealing to properly accept primer or paint. When a drywall compound is applied with a fingertip, and then when it is gently sanded when dry, it seals the particle boards. You can have a newly particle painted board that is ready to be showcased as décor in the room of your choice. It can dramatically transform your plain room into a dramatic piece of furniture that stands out and has your personal signature on it. A particle board does not have to look cheap if it has a good design and color. Wood is such a material that seasoned carpenters, do it yourself individuals and artists dabble with wood or all forms of wood materials at some point or the other.
