Do you want to stay young? What do you plan to do about that? - exercise, put some anti-aging lotion on your body and face, have some more or less invasive treatment. And what about your brain? You become aware of its value when we start losing keys or forgetting our duties. Here are several tips on how to be mentally fit.
Eat Brain Friendly Food
Do you like to eat candies? Remember: “A minute on the lips is a pound on the hips”. It will affect you by slowing down your body and mind. We need to eat appropriate food in order to be fit. Avoid high-fat products and use low cholesterol diets that include enough vitamins which can be found mostly in fruits.
Whole grains are full of glucose which provide energy to the brain. They boost your concentration. Brown cereals, granary bread, brown pasta is a perfect choice.
B vitamins – B6, B12 and folic acid reduce the level of homocysteine in your blood. This is important for eliminating the risk of a stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment. Vitamin E, C, K and Zinc increase our mental agility.
Eat enough green vegetables, citrus fruit, pumpkin seeds, whole grains, soy products, nuts, eggs and peas. Your body and mind will be full of energy. You will believe you can fly.
Physical Fitness Is Important
It is better not to sit around but to move. Note that physical activity is useful for your body - the same thing applies for your brain. Being fit will reduce the risk of brain disease as well. Moreover, exercising will bring power to your mind. Choose an activity which you like the most.
Furthermore, walking for 30 minutes a day is enough to recharge your batteries. Forget about using your car, and take a walk everywhere you need to go during your daily routine, unless you are not running late.
Pick a fitness program such as yoga, pilates, Zumba, swimming… You will find something that fits your capabilities and desires. Try being physically active at least half an hour every day and it will keep your brain problems away.
Mental Fitness
You need to take care of your muscles. But, don’t forget about the “brain muscle” in your head. If you don’t use your brain, you will be weak and unproductive. Think!
Take care of your social life. Conversation is a great practice for your brain.
Try reading books, newspapers and magazines. Analyze the content you read, and make solid and valid conclusions.
Play 'thinking' games like Chess, cards, Scrabble, or Trivial Pursuit. Do word games and crosswords puzzles. Watch 'question and answer' game shows - check your mental skills and learn something new.
Digital Brain games such as ‘My Party Quiz’ are helpful. You may play it whenever you are – on your computer, tablet or cell phone. Challenge your memory and intellect in different fields of knowledge and abilities, which would engage you to test your memory, word spelling or solving math problems.
Start a new hobby, for example. Did you always want to know more than one language? Learning something new will freshen your brain power and improve your memory.
Live a Healthy Life
Have in mind to have enough sleep. Human brain needs seven to nine sleeping hours a day. People who sleep less have concentration problems.
Eliminate stress - This is easy to say but not as easy to do. Change your point of view about problems that surround you. Keep stress levels under control with regular relaxation and meditation. Spend time with people who love you and support you.
After taking into account brain healthy food, mental and physical fitness as well as temper adjustments, if needed, you are on a good way to stay fresh and smart for a long while. Play games on your electronic device in free time, but do not take too much time, and mind your stress levels and have a smile on your face.
