5 Things You Could Be Missing From Your Life to Make You Super Happy Posted: January 31, 2018 @ 6:23 pm |
Living a happier life is not something that is easy to come by. In fact, a majority of people report lack of happiness in their lives. According to research, happiness depends on emotional, psychological and physical factors. But what are these physical, emotional and psychological factors that define happiness? This post will look into the five most important factors you need to have in your life in order to become happier. 1 - Gratitude Gratitude is the ability to be thankful for what you have got and show kindness to others. According to a study done by Harvard Health, people who show gratitude feel better about their lives. They are more optimistic about the future and excited about what happens around them. Just like mindfulness, gratitude helps us to focus on the present rather than the future. This reprograms and changes the brain’s natural tendency to focus on threats and negative aspects of life. Instead, we become joyful and contented with what we have in life. There are so many ways you can become grateful in life. Think of those people who have been during tough times and how they helped you overcome your troubles. Craft a letter highlighting the good things they did and thank them. You don’t have to send the letter to them. You can just write one and keep it somewhere to remind you of the need to be grateful. 2 - Compassion Some people refer to it as the best kept secret to happiness. A study on people’s brain shows that the neurons responsible for pleasure are more active when we observe someone helping others. The study reports that this level of pleasure is as enormous as when someone does good for us. The effects are even higher if we give to others without expecting something in return. Compassion also makes us have a broader perspective about life. It makes us wise and boosts our overall health. You don’t necessarily need millions of dollars to show compassion. Simple acts such as volunteering for charity events, donating clothes or helping friends with something will do just fine. 3 - God We have heard a lot of stories on TVs and newspapers of how religion is irrelevant to the modern-day life. This is completely untrue. Research done on people across different religions has found that people who believe there is God have happier and healthier lives than those who don’t believe. When you believe in God, you become more satisfied with your life. You gain positive inspiration from stories in the Bible and get to expand your social cycles through religious meetings and bible study groups. If you are the type who sneers at religious believers or get annoyed by their practice, you might need change your attitude towards them. Those people are very happy, calm and contented with their lives. The best thing you can do is to join them. You can become a catholic, protestant or a Seventh Day Adventist. Whichever church you choose to go to, you will still be serving one God. To increase your belief in God, you need to study the Bible deeply and understand it. You can purchase an SDA bible commentary online to help you know more about the Bible. 4 - Positivity In life, you are your own problem, and you are your own solution. If you choose to make it exciting and happy, then you will be happy and excited about life. If you choose to be sad and discounted, then you will be that way until you think otherwise. Always try to think positively even in bad situations. For instance, instead of thinking how you could have died in that car accident, think about how you were lucky to escape with minor injuries and how you were granted another chance to live. The best friend and worst enemy to your happiness is your mind. 5 - Regular Exercise Happiness involves both physical and emotional well-being. A regular exercise routine not only protects you against life threatening diseases, but it also boosts your emotional and psychological well-being. Make sure you exercise every day for 10 minutes. If you cannot exercise every day, then try at least three times a week for 30 minutes.
