This paper is a review of "Black Holes and Baby Universe's," by Ricardo B. freedom essay , Ph.D. (holder of the chair in physics at the University of Michigan, specializing in celestial physics). I also am a subscriber to the online newsletter, "Padra," published by the Center for Theoretical Astrophysics. In this essay, Dr. Serrano draws on his many years of experience to present the observations of others into a working model of the interior of a black hole. Unlike many of my (and other) colleagues in the physics department, Dr. Serrano bases his work on observational evidence, rather than on theories. This model of a black hole may interest you, because it gives some credence to what scientists have observed so far. Although not nearly enough to claim that this model of a black holes is the only plausible model, it does cast doubt upon the theories that are still working their way through the scientific literature. For example, astronomers have found many close to perfect companions to be present in other planetary systems that are similar to our own. But, do you see the error here? If astronomers discovered such companions to other planets, wouldn't they claim copyright on these models? Why should anyone accept something that has no real support? After all, scientists have been doing this for decades, using similar techniques, and it's only recently that we've discovered more celestial objects that fit this model of a universe. The author does talk about models of black holes, but not in any way claiming that they are the only possible model or even correct model. Rather, she points out that there may be a mathematical flaw in general relativity that could mean that it doesn't make sense to assume that black holes are made of nothing at all. It could be something like a warped sphere that has nothing at its center, just as light travels in a different way than sound does. It's just that math is hard to understand at the moment. I can understand this, and agree that it is a flaw in the model, but she then goes on to show how this flaw could effect the rest of our model of the universe, which also happens to be the premise upon which all of our science rests. If this were true, there would have to be something else, right? So then, she spends a whole chapter on this, while never actually discussing black holes or the baby universe. There are problems with her model, in my opinion. But I will leave that to others to decide. I am sure there are many more sophisticated models out there. But it seems to me, from what I've read so far, that Bracknell's model is a decent basic model of general relativity and of space-time as we know it. It has been studied at length and found to be satisfactory in explaining many physical situations. One thing that struck me as odd when I read her paper was the statement she put forward that "the big bang theory is incomplete". This is technically true, but as we know it was not the product of just a single explosion, but the product of an entire universe being exploded. It is completely appropriate for someone to say that something that was created in the very first moments of the universe is incomplete. But the missing piece of the pie that she talks about wasn't the explosion itself, it was the afterwards vacuum that followed. Now then, I suppose I could write an entire essay on this subject. In fact, I have already begun. To be completely honest with you, I don't really have any opinion on whether or not black holes exist. I think they probably do, though the debate will rage on for a while longer. But I will say that this particular paper raises interesting issues, and if you are interested in learning more about them, or if you would like to explore the physics of black holes, then I recommend that you do just that.
