A resourceful modder has given the secondary non-player characters of Horizon Zero Dawn their own unique stories and video series. Like the sequel Horizon Forbidden West, the open-world action game from Guerrilla Games takes players to a post-apocalyptic world populated by disparate tribes and beast-like robots. Although the focus of Horizon Zero Dawn is Aloy, a young outcast from the Nora tribe, every character in the world of Horizon has a story to tell.
The world of Horizon is made up of different tribes, each bringing their own unique style and culture to the sci-fi setting. For example, the Nora tribe is a hardy society of hunter-gatherers who follow a supreme matriarch and worship a deity called the All-Mother. The Karya Empire, on the other hand, is a city-dwelling kingdom that appoints a king and worships the sun. The world of Horizon Zero Dawn is a distant version of our world, and each tribe is inspired by real groups, such as Native American tribes or the ancient Roman Empire. Horizon Forbidden West features new tribes such as the Utaru and Tenactus, which helped expand the fictional setting even further.
According to GamesRadar, a modder and YouTuber named Maqsimous has begun creating his own stories for the non-playable Horizon Zero Dawn characters. The first episode of the video, "Kotakali Song," takes an unnamed member of the Banuk tribe that players can see in the game and transforms her into a complex protagonist. The character design prompted Maqsimous to give her a name and backstory, and the modding tools allowed them to bring the story to life in the game. Maqsimous recently began work on Nora's Mother, a second series of videos that tell the story of a Nora woman named Sequola and her life before Horizon Zero Dawn.
