Bricks Lives Matter is an original Lego-compatible bricks design inspired by the on-going Black Lives Matter Movement. In 2020, the world has been turned upside down by a global pandemic. While everyone is facing the battle against COVID-19, the black community is still facing the battle against racism AND COVID-19. In May 2020, a black brother of our community, was brutally killed by a police officer. Since starting in Minnesota after the murder, the movement for Black Lives Matter has swept across America and all over the world. It is a memorial moment to see that protesters around the world stand up against police brutality, systemic racism and inequality. WHY Bricks Lives Matter? I’m Uncle Freddie, the Envisioner of Brisks Lives Matter, joined a peaceful protest on May 30th on Pike St in Seattle. During the protest and was severely hurt by tear gases. It was one of the most horrible moments in my life, my nose and mouth were burning, eyes were swollen and teary. In those 15 minutes, when I could bare breathe and see anything, I re-examine the protest: It was heartbroken to see how many friends and families got wounded, to realize how many people might sick or died because of getting COVID-19 from the crowd, to witness how looters pretend to be one of the protestors but loot stores. I knew it’s time to do something! I gathered a team of Lego lovers who stands with me, we want to do something to commemorate this part of human history about the Black Lives Matter Movement in our own way. With Bricks Lives Matter, we want to call on everyone to stay inside, stay away from getting hurt by the police and the virus, express feelings and thoughts about the social issue in a way with PEACE & LOVE. We clearly see the problem behind the whole movement is more complicated, which includes not only systemic racism problems but also police brutality towards all innocent people, as well as, politician’s position towards the black community and the way they respond to this significant social movement. Eventually, 3 sets of characters were designed to represent groups and communities under the spotlight in the BLM Movement.
