How to conquer the ‘five a day' struggle. |

Fruit and vegetables are an essential part of everybody’s diet. Whilst some people are lucky enough to like most of what is available, some people do struggle to manage their five a day due to simply not liking them. Whilst this can be difficult, it is important to try to get your daily intake and find out the best ones for you and how they can help you.
Can fresh fruit at your work desk help you at all? Research undertaken by Fruitful Office certainly seems to show so. Productivity and concentration levels were up by over 10% which is astonishing when compared to not eating any at all. Whilst fizzy drinks and confectionery can often be a temptation, some businesses are starting to see the benefits that fresh fruit have for both their staff and the business as a whole and have started providing fresh fruit for their workforces to snack on at their desks.
This definitely seems like a great idea. Not only does it encourage staff to eat a little healthier and perhaps live a healthier lifestyle (and even helping them to count towards their five a day), it also boost productivity, morale and happiness which benefits both the staff and the business. Happier staff often means better (and more!) work. 80% of those surveyed felt that their quality of working life had improved since the fresh fruit provision had started and plenty found that this had helped them in the long term in both their working and personal lives - they were either choosing to eat more fruit or make better decisions food wise by cutting out the unhealthier options that they would have usually chosen in the past.
There are plenty of foods that can be eaten to help improve productivity levels but fresh fruit definitely ranks pretty highly. It can be difficult to focus and concentrate as we age so it's important to take advantage of such brain foods when we are made aware of their benefits and advantages to our health. We often don’t realise how poor our diets can be - but how much better do you feel after having a healthier meal packed full of fruit and vegetables? Junk food often tastes great but how often are we left feeling a little ill and perhaps even lethargic after eating it?
But what fruit would be the best to provide in the workplace? Blueberries are fantastic as they offer plenty of fibre, vitamin C and vitamin K as well as something called gallic acid. These can help ward off stress and mental degeneration - essential for helping protect us and our brain as we head into old age.
Bananas are another. Full of potassium, they can help keep us more focused and they also contain fibre and something called tryptophan - this helps boost serotonin levels which can help make people calmer and happier - which is incredibly handy in the workplace. It is clear to see just how beneficial fresh fruit in the workplace can be.
