Hosting a public corporate event can be a lot of work, but it can also be very rewarding. It can help your business gain valuable exposure, bring in more clients, or help a charity raise a substantial amount of money. However, there are also private corporate events you host simply for your own team members. While you may not see any PR benefits from these events, you will see a number of other benefits. Namely, your employees will be happier and more satisfied with their work. By boosting your employee morale through a corporate event, you’ll raise productivity, too. Here are some of the ways these events can make employees happier. 1. They Show You Care Hosting an event specifically for your employees shows that you care about them. You see them as people who deserve to be treated as VIPs every now and then. This is especially true if you don’t make them plan their own event, which you definitely shouldn’t. You should take on most of the work here, although you may have your assistant handle some of the arrangements. Telling your employees to organize their own event may feel like asking someone to plan and host their own birthday party. It’s likely to lessen some of the morale that you want to boost. 2. They Show You Value Them In a similar vein, treating your employees to a corporate event shows that you truly value them as partners in the organization. They’re not simply cogs in the machine that keep things moving. You recognize that without them, your business would simply not function. You need your employees, and hosting an event just for them shows how much they’re valued. That, in turn, boosts morale and can even motivate them to work harder and do more for your business because they know that they are a recognized part of it. 3. They Can Make Your Employees Involved When someone has ownership of something, they are more invested in it. You can use a corporate event to help give your employees ownership of projects or of the company itself. Part of this event could include a presentation on the state of your company. This shows employees that they’re valued enough to be given this type of information. You can also use the event to host an open forum where employees can present their concerns, questions, ideas, or issues with the company and management. This could be done anonymously through suggestion boxes if employees don’t want to stand up and speak about their concerns. 4. Speakers Can Inspire and Motivate Bringing in speakers to an event can be a good option to make employees more engaged. Speakers are professionals in the task of engaging an audience and can easily inspire the mind of employees. They can provide motivational speeches and activities that boost morale and teach employees how to work together to make work easier. To try to get the best out of the speaker, meet with him or her before the event and discuss what kind of topic you’d like them to speak on. 5. Activities Help Bring Teams Together While many people make fun of team-building activities, they do work. By putting your employees together and asking them to solve puzzles, find certain items, or build specific things, you’re giving them a problem they can only solve by working together. Your activities don’t have to take place indoors, either, or have an obvious goal. You can organize employee sports teams, go mini-golfing, or even have a poker night. 6. Feed Them Food definitely boosts morale. Make sure your corporate event includes not only food but great food. This is one area where you don’t really want to go cheap. Provide your employees with a great meal and they’re sure to appreciate you that much more. If you continue this throughout the year by having the occasional food day or catered breakfast, you’re sure to see morale improve. 7. Use Your Event to Celebrate Milestones Telling an employee congratulations on being with the company for five years in passing may make them feel slightly appreciated, but honoring them with a pin or other award in front of the entire company at an event goes much farther. Use these events to celebrate employee milestones and other important victories will help boost morale and make new employees see that you do appreciate those who have given years to the company. You could even get them started on the right foot by introducing new employees at these events. 8. Be Sure the Event is Fun While you can include some serious parts to your corporate event, you also want to make sure that your employees are having fun. They should enjoy themselves, which is why having fun activities such as sports matches can be good. You can also have live entertainment or hire a DJ to host a dance. If you really want to do something your employees will love, send out a survey asking what type of activities they would like to have at the event. 9. Host it Somewhere Special Your employees see the office on a daily basis, so get out of there and go somewhere new. Rent a venue for your corporate event so that it feels more special than just another activity at the office. This venue doesn’t have to be incredibly expensive, but you should go somewhere nice that offers everything you need for the activities you have planned. 10. It Doesn’t Have to Cost a Lot A corporate event doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking. Sometimes simply hosting a small casual party or celebration in the office is enough. Many employers do this throughout the year to help keep morale high. Then they will have a major corporate event around the holidays or in the summer that serves as a way of thanking everyone for all of their hard work throughout the year. This can be a great way of making sure your corporate event doesn’t seem like your once a year thanks. If it does, it can actually backfire and make your employees feel less motivated and satisfied.
