We have not even to risk the adventure alone for the heroes of all time have gone before us. The labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, prologue, the chapter before chapter 1. This is a step that isn't included in the standard hero's journey outlines, but stories often use prologues to give us a little bit of information before we jump in in the case of a frame story like we'll see in the grand budapest hotel. This is the time that actually takes for us to get to the story. The prologue is by no means necessary and isn't part of standard mythic structure, but it can be a useful tool for setting up your world before you move into the actual story. Space in grand Budapest hotel, we have three frames outside of our story: the girl at the statue, the old writer and the young writer. None of these are part of the actual story and function as a prologue. In https://www.techtricksclub.net/best-ethernet-cable-for-gaming/ , they are just getting us to the beginning of the story and giving us information about the world and Harry Potter. We have Dumbledore, Hagrid and mechanical dropping Harry off at the Dursley house. This serves as a prologue because it tells us that Harry is an orphan and that these characters are intimately tied to him. Alien doesn't have much of a prologue. You could argue at the time before the crew actually wakes up as one but that's pushing it like. I said prologues aren't required, especially if you're trying to strictly follow the hero's journey. Movies often have a quick prologue because they can serve as a quick hook, but long prologues and novels are a bit overdone at this point. You can have a quick prologue, but generally avoid starting your story with a ton of setup. You have plenty of time to work that into the story. Act. 1, chapter 1, the ordinary world. This is where the story actually begins. We learn who the main character is. Where they are and who some of the other characters are going to be, this is generally a peaceful time in the story. We'Re just learning about the world and characters and watching them interact. Everything isn't completely peaceful. Here, though often we can tell that something is off, or the very least we can see that the main care Durr want something that they don't have in the grand Budapest hotel. We meet Xero and mr. Gustav voiceover tells us about mr. Gustav and how he runs. The hotel, through a job interview we get to know zero and the something wrong here, is Madame D. She has a bad feeling before she leaves, but mr. Gustav sees her off for all the same. We can also see a want in zero he's on a trial period as lobby boy, so we can see that he wants the job in Harry Potter. We see Harry's life at the Dursley house. The something wrong is incredibly obvious here. They treat him like trash and he wants to leave an alien. We see the crew hanging around and eating. We establish how they interact with each other and their various positions as crew members. They all want to be home on earth and some of them want more money. We see something is wrong when the crew realizes they haven't woken up near Earth, chapter 2, the call to adventure. This is where the main plot of the story begins. Something happens that disrupts the regular flow of the ordinary world and the hero is faced with a decision go out on the adventure that's offered to them or stay home. Some heroes are willing to take on the challenge in the grand Budapest hotel when 0 and Gustav learned about Madame DS death. They hop into action without hesitating and head to her funeral. Other heroes might not be so willing to leave the ordinary world an alien. They learned when they were awakened from cryo sleep. It'S not because they're close to Earth it's because they received an SOS many members of the crew are hesitant to the call and want to continue their journey home in Harry Potter. He accidentally uses magic to make glass disappear at the zoo, after that he begins receiving letters. Inviting him to Hogwarts Harry doesn't resist the call, because who would, if you're a living under the stairs and get invited to wizard school. This isn't an incredibly important step because often heroes want to leave, but you do see refusal of the call in many stories there's also another optional step here called meeting the mentor. The hero may need some kind of tool or push before they leave on the adventure head of them. This often takes the form of a wise old teacher who's been on adventure before in Alien Action forms the crew that they are contractually obligated to investigate. The SOS requiring them to accept their journey, he is a mentor in this moment, pushing our heroes on their quest in Harry Potter, Hagrid acts as Harry's mentor, helping him get his school supplies and, most importantly, his wand Harry doesn't refuse his call to adventure. Instead, the Dursleys kind of embody this step, they refused to let Harry go but, as we know that doesn't work out too well in grand Budapest. This moment actually comes before the inciting incident, who stopped train zero to be a lobby boy? This aid zero on his personal quest to keep his job pending his trial period. Most stories will include some kind of mentor, even willing heroes, usually aren't prepared for the world of adventure chapter three crossing the first threshold. This is the part of the story where the hero leaves the ordinary world and enters the world of adventure in Harry Potter. This threshold is somewhat vague. It'S a slow burn from when Harry leaves with Hagrid all the way to Hogwarts, but the imagery of this threshold crossing is made clear at platform. 9 and 3/4. Harry must cross the literal threshold from the ordinary world of London to the world of magic, an alien. This is when some of the crew members leave the Nostromo to land on the unknown moon and in grand Budapest. This is when Gustav and zero take the train to Madame DS funeral. This threshold is defended by what Campbell calls threshold Guardians. These are the forces that live at the edge of the world of adventure and tell heroes to turn back in grand Budapest. The military stops the train and almost arrests, zero and Harry Potter. The Dursleys are the threshold Guardians when they refuse to let him go to Hogwarts and in alien. The conditions on the moon are rough. It begs the crew to turn back, but they continue on anyway. All of these threshold guardians are a signal to the audience that the hero is on their adventure now and that this world, this extraordinary world, isn't a safe place to be. The main steps in act 1 are establishing the ordinary world, the call to adventure and the crossing of the first threshold. These are essential to almost any story. The smaller steps, like refusal of the call meeting the mentor and threshold Guardians are commonly used, but are far less essential for crafting a complete story after the threshold and as Guardians have been crossed, your hero has left the ordinary world of act 1 and has entered The extraordinary world of act 2 in our next video we'll be covering the first half of act 2, make sure you subscribe.
