Film Paper or Vinyl Which is Best for Labels |

All materials used in the manufacture of sticky labels have their own pros and cons. At the risk of jumping straight to the conclusion, therefore, none is ‘better’ than any other, strictly speaking. Instead, it is a case of weighing up your objectives and priorities with the options available in order to select something appropriate for the job. Film, paper and vinyl labels are all designed with different purposes in mind, and bring a very different set of benefits to the table. Film Labels For example, film labels are fantastic when durability and resistance to external factors are your top priorities. Film labels have a long lifespan, even when exposed to water, oils, chemicals and UV rays. They are not susceptible to fading like some other types of labels, and nor will they peel away from the surface when used in high-moisture environments. These are also the types of labels you can use in a deep-freeze setting, as their structural integrity is not affected by extremely low temperatures. Film labels are great for bottles, jars, containers and food packets designed to be stored in a refrigerator or freezer. They are tear-resistant, fade resistant, scuff resistant and water-resistant, often giving them a lifespan that goes beyond many other comparable types of labels. Some film labels are relatively easy to remove without leaving sticky residues behind, while others are designed to remain in place permanently. Vinyl Labels Meanwhile, vinyl labels provide a fantastic blank canvas for creating photo-quality designs with an eye-catching glossy finish. This is the material used in the manufacture of most car stickers, computer and electronic device stickers, logo stickers, window stickers and more. With vinyl labels, you get a similar level of durability to that of film labels. Vinyl labels are naturally water-resistant and will not smudge, smear, tear or degrade when exposed to moisture or extreme temperatures. The biggest difference between vinyl labels and film labels is the way in which the latter has been designed with quick and easy removal in mind. In fact, some of the best vinyl labels come complete with a full 18-month removal guarantee, during which they can be removed from the surface material without leaving any sticky residues behind. This is precisely why vinyl labels are the preferred choice as product labels, making them easy for customers to remove after making a purchase. Paper Labels Paper materials continue to be a popular choice for a long list of everyday applications. They are extremely versatile and are the most affordable option by far, available in a wide variety of colours and suitable for most types of surfaces. However, paper labels will only ever have a strictly limited lifespan, and provide little to no protection against moisture, scuffs, exposure to chemicals and so on. Paper labels can be protected with the addition of a laminate or varnish coating, but will still not be quite as durable or hardwearing as their counterparts above.
