10 Steps to Start Promoting Your Business Online Using Social Media |

Very Good Information for Anyone Promoting Their Business Online! Check it out! I had a great conversation with a long-time friend recently; he’s starting a web-based business and needed advice on what to do to optimize his business’s website and create a social media marketing campaign. He asked me to give him some “do it yourself” tips on how he could get the ball rolling on his own. I have created a list of 10 things he can do on his own or figure out how to do by asking a friend (me) or by searching online for how-to info – these steps will get the ball rolling on the web marketing for his new business. These 10 things will lay the foundation for a long and successful web marketing campaign. Get people following your new blog, Facebook, and Twitter accounts by asking them to follow you! Start by asking the people you know, who you’ve worked with, and your family – ask them through a personalized email to follow you and your business online (they almost always will!). Add links to your social accounts in your email signature. Put your URL everywhere: in forum signatures, in the URL field when you comment on blogs, etc. Always be sure to add your own voice to your updates and to not shove your product or service down your follower’s throats. Get yourself out there and you’ll be amazed at who will follow you and the impact social media can have on your business. 1) Setup a Blog Start a free one on the many free blogging sites or install a blog using free software such as WordPress. Take advantage of the SEO tools available. Blog often and blog short, meaning add frequent updates to your blog that are easily digestible. This is a great way to stay in touch with your audience and be search engine friendly at the same time. 2) Create a Facebook Page Add as much information to your Facebook page as possible – the more info, the better! Add links to your website, contact info, company info, a company logo, pictures of your offices or products, and a brief overview of your services. 3) Create a Twitter Account Add the same info there too – name, company description, website URL, etc. 4) Create a Youtube Account Optimize it by filling in all of the profile information including links to your site, contact info, company info, a company logo, and a brief overview of your services. 5) Make a YouTube Video Make and upload a video to YouTube. Make it short and informative. Add YouTube videos as often as possible. Embed your website’s URL into your video so it is always visible. Use a Flip Cam – you can get one for $129. Take video of your store, products, talk about your service – just keep it short! This can provide tremendous SEO benefits and is a way to engage with your audience. 6) Sign Up For Socialoomph.com This service will manage updates to your Twitter & Facebook accounts. 7) Auto-Follow Twitter Accounts In Social Oomph, you can set it up to automatically follow other Twitter accounts based on their interests. Set this up and follow the maximum amount of Twitter followers in a day. This is completely automated! Auto-Reply Message On Twitter Set up your Twitter account to automatically email a message (with a link to your website) to anyone who follows your account. 9) Auto-Update on Twitter & Facebook Set up Social Oomph to make regular updates to your Twitter and Facebook. This will allow you to strategically add updates in the future at specified dates and times. 10) Send a Newsletter Create and send a regular newsletter. Getting a new newsletter subscriber is a very valuable thing, so spend time building your list. Add a signup form to your website. Use a service called “Aweber” or “Mail Chimp.” These services provide forms to add to your website to get subscriber info; they also allow you to create “drip” campaigns so you can incrementally send new subscribers specific emails automatically, providing valuable info and staying in touch with your subscribers. Offer something for free if they sign up and deliver! It works like a charm for getting subscribers.
