Traffic rules are formulated to ensure the safety of not only drivers, but cyclists and pedestrians as well. They include the official laws and informal rules to maintain a regular flow of traffic and diminish the chances of any disorder, accidents, injuries death rate. Not following traffic rules doesn't only cause harm to ourselves but to the nearby innocent car drivers and bystanders. Some of the most important traffic rules which we should follow at all costs are given below.
-
In order to let the traffic from the opposite direction to go to the right side, the driver should be kept on the left side of a two-way road. Similarly, when one is turning left to either leave or enter a road, the car should be kept on the left side. And when one wants to turn right, the car should be moved to the center of the road and then should come at the left side of the entering road.
-
The speed of the vehicle should be kept low at pedestrian crossings, corners of the road, intersections and road junctions and should be increased only when there's a clear area ahead. Moreover, when a driver has entered into a main road with heavy unregulated traffic, space should be provided to the nearby vehicles especially on the right side.
-
There are various places where parking of vehicles is prohibited. These places include:
On top of a footpath, very near to a pedestrian crossing or traffic lights, on any road with heavy traffic such as main roads, on the roads that have a white line drawn on them, either in front or opposite of an already parked vehicle, near the entrances of schools, buildings or hospitals, near any fire hydrant or at a bus stop because it will cause obstruction.
-
The yellow line on the roads should never be crossed even in overtaking. Likewise, when a vehicle is posited at a road junction, pedestrian crossing or an intersection, the painted stop line should never be crossed.
-
A certain distance should be set from the vehicle that is in front of you to avoid a crash whenever that vehicle stops or slows down. However, immediate brakes should be avoided.
-
Loud, shrill and harsh horns should not be used. The use of horns should only be made when it's necessary.
-
Maximum space should be provided to the vehicles that are driving upwards on mountains or steep roads by vehicles that are returning downwards.
-
Driving backwards for a longer time than what is advised, using the vehicle in ill- health or after the consumption of medicines that affects the way of driving and overtaking another vehicle which has stopped at a pedestrian school crossing are the examples of some more activities on the road that are not allowed.
-
There are some hand signals that are practiced by the drivers of all vehicles to communicate with each other. For example, when one is about to slow the speed down, the right arm should be extended outwards and moved up and down to inform others. When one wants to stop his vehicle, the forearm should be raised vertically outside the vehicle. When one wants to move to the right hand side lane, the right arm should be extended outwards. Whereas when one wants to move to the left hand side of the lane, the right arm should be extended outwards with an anti-clockwise rotation.
-
The vehicle's registration mark should always be visibly clear.
-
The towing is only allowed for the mechanically disabled or improperly assembled motor vehicles, side cars and registered trailers. Other kinds of vehicles should be towed for the delivery purpose to the nearest garage or petrol pump if they went through a complete breakdown.
-
The motor vehicles should not be loaded to the extent that there starts to occur an obstruction in the tail lights or headlights or any other parts of the vehicle body which are necessary for it's safety.
-
On a one-way road, driving should not be done on self-made ways but instead the directions that are allowed should be followed. Returning into a one-way road in a forbidden direction is prohibited.
-
During any ongoing road construction work, the speed of the vehicle should be lowered down below 25 kilometers per hour.
-
Excess of goods should not be carried out on a motor vehicle in a way that it causes harm to a person. Similarly, the carrying of dangerous and inflammable products by any public service vehicle is prohibited.
These 15 instructions should be followed along with the prescribed regulations of the police officers to ensure a safe and satisfactory drive on the roads.
