Bandhani work is a traditional 'tie and dye' craft which is prevalent in Rajasthan and Gujarat in India. The word Bandhani comes from 'band' meaning 'to tie' in Sanskrit. Bandhani craft is often referred to as 'Bandhej', 'Bandhni', 'Bandana', 'tie-dye' etc.Bandhani in India goes back about 5000 years. It is by far, India's most ancient tradition of tie and dye work which is still very much prevalent in the country. The Kutchi community in Gujarat and natives of Rajasthan are known to be the most seasoned practitioners of Bandhani craft.
