In a 2013 interview, Dr. T. Baswell Donaldson, Chairman of The College of The Bahamas College Council said of President Vogel-Boze “The College of The Bahamas was indeed fortunate to have found such an able leader in President Betsy Vogel-Boze. She has set COB on a path towards financial security and independence. When Dr. Boze and I worked together to refinance COB’s existing debt into lower interest bonds, she personally went to the financial institutions and sold them on COB and convinced them to buy into the bonds based on where she was taking The College. A charismatic and diplomatic leader, she worked with faculty and staff to successfully complete new Industrial Agreements without any work stoppages or industrial action. Her ability to articulate a clear vision for The College, her clarity of purpose and her appreciation for the college’s mission helped bring together divergent forces within the academic community. The College of The Bahamas is in a better place because of her leadership.“
Another Council member earlier this year said of President Emeritus Boze “COB has had nine presidents in sixteen years. Boze has shown that she has what it takes to lead the institution. Faculty and student morale are the best that it has been in decades. The campus looks great and the campus experience and learning environment are at an all time high. Thanks to her vision, we have an exciting new master facilities plan that is transforming the campus to a place of beauty and function and will serve us well for many years. This is an impossible political environment for foreigners working in The Bahamas. The PLP government wants foreigners to leave, especially high profile individuals. Council had really hoped that we would have been able to convince her to stay beyond her three-year contract. Given the turnover in this presidency, we appreciate that she stayed for over three years. She is a class act and her decision not to renew was the right decision for her at this time. Ever gracious and thinking of the best interest of The College, she even had the grace in her letter notifying College Council and the Ministry of Education of her resignation and wish not to renew her contract that she believes that it is time that COB, as our national university, needs to be led by a Bahamian.”
