A lawyer with more than three decades of experience, Bruce J. Baker is now Executive Vice President and General Counsel with the Illinois Bankers Association. In this capacity, he oversees legal initiatives and provides legal guidance for an organization that represents more than 700 Illinois banks, trust companies, and thrift institutions. Bruce J. Baker’s principal responsibilities at the Illinois Bankers Association include advocating and negotiating state, local, and federal legislation that pertains to banking regulations and industry best practices. During his time at the IBA Baker has contributed significantly to the drafting and formulation of codes and laws that protect bank customers and banking institutions.
Bruce Baker also advises the IBA and its member organizations about issues related to regulatory compliance, employment, payment systems, and corporate governance. He provides counsel about the implementation of new organizational programs and products and reviews contracts with vendors. Moreover, he directs banking industry-related litigation on behalf of the IBA in state and federal courts.
Baker also serves as Of Counsel to the law firm Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg. He focuses on legal matters related to the financial services industry, including litigation, legislation, regulatory compliance, and trust administration.
