What Are Allergies? |

We all know what allergies are on the face of it – of course these are reactions that people get to certain types of foods, pollens and other stimulus which cause a number of unpleasant reactions such as rashes, sweating, swelling, difficulty breathing and bad sinuses. But while many of us know that much, this information doesn't really explain where allergies come from in the first place and nor does it help us to find the allergy treatment we need. Read on then and we will look in more detail at what causes allergies, where they come from and how they can be effectively treated.
What's Really Going On When You Have an Allergic Reaction… When you have an allergic reaction to something like pollen or even a particular food, it's easy to make the incorrect assumption that it's that 'thing' that is then making you feel unwell. If you're allergic to chocolate, that means that chocolate makes you feel ill right? Actually though, this is a slight misunderstanding as it's not really the pollen that is making your nose run. Rather, it's your own immune systemthat is making your nose run. An allergic reaction is actually the same thing as a cold or a virus in that the symptoms you experience are caused by your body trying to fight what it seems as a harmful invader. In the case of a cold or virus, your body is correct and those symptoms actually help you to get better. In the case of an allergy though, the body has mistaken a harmless piece of pollen for a toxin and thus the reaction actually does more harm than good. It's this reaction that a good natural allergy treatment needs to address. This is also why the symptoms of allergies are essentially the same. Swelling occurs because your body is rushing blood to the affected area to get nutrients there, while our sinuses run to help clear out our sinuses. All this is triggered and controlled by chemicals in the body that act as signalers called 'histamines'. This is why many forms of allergy relief consist of antihistamines that block the action of these signalers. It is better to use milder forms of antihistamine however such as 'The Allergy Aid' which is made from all natural ingredients; these kinds do not have the same side effects such as the infamous drowsiness which other antihistamines can cause. Where do Allergies Come From? What this still doesn't explain is where allergies come from in the first place – why is it that some people's bodies mistake pollen for a toxin whereas other people don't have this problem? Interestingly, it takes the first few years of our lives for our bodies to learn what's harmful and what's not and it's not until the age of about five or six that the symptoms of allergies start to show themselves. In the case of a pollen allergy, it is actually specific proteins found in pollen that the body is reacting to – not the pollen itself. While it's not fully understood why allergies occur the way they do, it is generally thought that the connection is formed if someone becomes ill at the same time as inhaling large amounts of allergens like ragweed. In other words, if you get an infection at the same time as breathing in lots of pollen, your body notes the correlation and learns to treat that pollen as a toxin. At any rate, it is important to find the right effective and natural allergy treatment – such as The Allergy Aid to help you deal with the symptoms and prevent them interfering with your health and lifestyle.
