A handstand is not only important for people who are aspiring to be a good gymnast or people who wish to perform jaw dropping handstands in public but they are also a great way of building a person’s upper body strength and gain muscular arms in no time at home. The best part about a handstand is that it can be used to dramatically increase the upper body’s strength and flexibility in no time at all and all that is needed for that is a tad bit of free space which can be easily obtained by shifting some furniture around for a while in the room.
A handstand might seem complex and impressive from a distance but it is not that difficult for a person to perform a handstand, especially if he has good info about it. Any person with a normal body is capable of performing a handstand, there is a good video about this, just go here to see it. The steps of performing an impressive and clean handstand are:
- Find a free open space with a soft grounding. A room with carpet or a gym mat will do or even a grassy lawn or park would be a great place to learn a handstand. It is better to have a plain ground rather than inclined one as it is easier to perform a handstand on a flat surface.
- The next step is to loosen the shoulders and wrists by various normal exercises. After this a little warm up is necessary.
- After the warm up, a person should stand in vertical position on the flat surface with arms raised above the head.
- Then taking a big step forward using the dominant leg a person should throw his body forward. A person must remember to take the step forward and not to the side as taking a step towards the side will increase the difficulty in maintaining the balance once the weight is on the hands.
- Using one leg the body should move in a see saw like manner and once the hands ouch the ground the leg should be lifted swiftly. All this should be performed in one fluidic motion to prevent the body from jerking and hence losing control. Also, the elbows should be locked and shoulders pulled upwards in a shrugging like position. This reduces the chance of injury and increases the efficiency of the handstand.
- Finally, once the person is on the hands the body should be kept straight along with the back and the weight should be kept on the fingers instead of palms. If a person shifts their weight to the palms, the weight gets unbalanced and the handstand is most likely to topple.
People might consider taking another person who can hold their feet so that they don’t fall over a couple of times in the beginning and the support can be eliminated once the person learns to hold the handstand with stability. Once the handstand is stable, people can try to walk around with their hands a bit and this greatly improves the arm strength in a very short duration of time along with the core.
