Every woman who has ever been pregnant is all-too-familiar with the backpain associated with bringing a new human being into the world. It's no laughing matter, one that is made all-the-more serious by the fact that ingesting either OTC or prescription medications to treat said pain is strictly off-limits while pregnant.
So what can you do?
For one, you can apply a topical pain reliever like Ben Gay or Icy Hot. Biofreeze works best, for those of you who have access to a physical therapist, chiropractor or medical supply store that offers it retail.
The other solution - and the two can be used together - are the so-called "belly supports", better known as pregnancy and/or maternity supports. Some people refer to them as maternity belts, and some of the products themselves bear more of a resemblance to a belt than do others.
The benefits of attacking the pain in this manner is that the mother does not ingest any chemicals, and the vast majority of the pain can be effectively eliminated without harming the baby. While topical pain relievers only bring temporary relief, the solution to that problem is to reapply regularly. You won't be pregnant forever, and the pain won't last forever.
Just try and be mindful of that last sentence if and when tempted to twist the cap off the bottle in hopes of finding some easy relief.
