Things to know about the Wireless Follow Focus System for Filmmakers |
Posted: July 8, 2016 |
The follow focus system is unquestionably one of the major support systems on the production set that gives filmmakers all the freedom and confidence they need while shooting. However, there are many people who generally use a manual one which can seem fine in certain cases, but it’s definitely restricting in a way. The fact cannot be held for denial that one of the most premium solutions that can give the ultimate freedom for keeping everything in focus are the wireless follow focus systems. Remote controlled, these systems can burn a hole in one’s pocket due to their soaring price and generally cost thousands of dollars. But you don’t have to shell thousands of dollars because you can get a cool and reasonably priced wireless follow focus system for your DSLR camera, or may be high end cameras. Ever used a camera on a steadicam or digital stabilizer? Or, even a long crane where you cannot have a direct control over the focus with your hands? You would have then absolutely wondered how the professionals manage to keep their shots in focus. If you shoot with small handheld stabilizers, there are two solutions to keep your shots in focus. First, it’s by making sure you don’t shoot with a narrow depth of field. You can achieve that by using an exceptionally wide lens, because short focal lengths equal depth of field (DOF), or closing down on the aperture as much as you can to broaden the DOF. There’s another way for keeping your shot in focus i.e. simply set focus on the subject. Once you start moving, make sure you keep the same distance between you and the subject. These two methods are limiting. If moving in and away from your subject and achieving that appealing shallow DOF look is what you want, you must consider investing in a good wireless follow focus system. Well, most of these systems are available for thousands of dollars but you don’t have to spend a huge amount on buying one, as there are a few reasonable options. The affordable and easy to use follow focus allows for accurate wireless focusing. The robust motor will drive most lenses and it will expand stills lenses to a full 270 degree throw for utmost efficiency. The wireless follow focus system is available for Sony, Canon, Nikon and Panasonic, including their camcorders, digital cameras and other equipment.
