There are many strategies for e-mail marketers to improve their effectiveness. But, often copywriting is not their strong side. My name is Heather Davie, and today we will talk about tips for copywriters. I finished Adelphi University in NY, and now I am a blogger and freelance writer for companies like englishessaywriter.com, so, I know what I’m talking about.
1. Know your audience You should be aware of your audience and try to picture the person for whom you are writing the letter. You can even give them names. Try to imagine their working day and home life. Think about their family and important people. Learn about their passions, likes and dislikes. Don’t forget to consider their age. All this points will make your copy more targeted and useful.
2. Determine your value proposition You should be always prepared for the questions. So, you should know the answers. Try to note main and average questions and prepare answers for them.
3. Find a unique selling proposition Your offer should be unique and stand out from millions of other ones. It will increase your response chances.
4. Establish an objective Before start writing, you should be clear about the purpose and goal of the letter you are going to write. If you are not clear about it, so will be your reader.
5. Use a compelling subject line If you want your e-mail to be opened, you should get there a subject line. Don’t be rushing just before sending the letter. Your task is to convince readers to open your letter. The main word for this task is “you”. It will personalize your letter. And, of course, don’t forget about old ones like new, exciting, exclusive and introducing. There should be just 50 characters in the line or even less.
6. Write a great headline Yes, it sounds obvious, but, still it is very important tip you should not ignore or forget. The main purpose of every headline is to get readers to read further. Try to use some buzzwords considering your customers read only headlines. Does it call them to action? You may write few variants of headlines and subject lines to know the combination that works best.
7. Avoid weasel words You should avoid words that have no direct action command. Don’t waste your time and your readers’ attention. There should be no doubt in your words. Try to use words like “will” and “can” instead of “maybe”, “perhaps”, “but” and others.
8. Don't use passive voice You should use the present tense and avoid passive voice. Passive voice will make your sentences weak and obscure.
9. Include a customer quote You always can include some useful and positive customer quotes. It should be a brief but convincing one. Don’t forget to mention the names of authors.
10. Keep your copy clean and concise You should do editing and proofreading to all of your copies. Also, try to read them out loud or ask someone else to do this.
