Squeezing in Naps When Taking Care of the Baby |
Posted: August 4, 2016 |
Parents who are into a hands-on approach when it comes to taking care of their children know very well how stressful the early years can be. The running joke about lacking sleep during the first couple of years of the baby is technically true, albeit thrown around as a joke perhaps to make it seem like a non-issue or perhaps because it actually serves as a bragging right for being a committed parent.
For someone who hasn't experienced waking up at random hours in the night or simply staying up for hours on end, the thought is indeed somewhat amusing. But for those who are actually experiencing it suffer sleep deprivation. This subsequently makes them prone to making bad decisions because of stress. Not to mention that the lack of sleep endangers the baby as well because the reflexes of the parent drops significantly. Parents have become innovative when it comes to squeezing in a few minutes of nap. Some parents would sneak in a nap right beside their baby's crib, or when they are waiting for their food to cook. Admittedly, the latter option is risky because the nap might transition into a full sleep and overcook the food which should have been ready in half an hour. One suggestion by some parents is to buy a good nursing chair. This is even more useful for mothers who are breastfeeding since they can position themselves comfortably while both the baby and her fall into slumber. However, with so many gliders and rockers for nursing chairs out there, some might find it overwhelming to choose. A lot of parents end up buying one that fits their budget or one that catches their fancy aesthetically. The first consideration to determine is which one the parents would prefer to have as a nursing chair; a rocker or a glider. This preference depends on which motion feels better. Rockers provide a more concave motion while gliders emulate the movement of a small porch swing. It's highly recommended to get more info on how each parent would feel about the movement. There are probably stores nearby that sell them and the stores would most likely let people test out the chairs, since the whole selling point of these furniture is their rocking motion. One advantage of gliders over rockers however, is that it is generally considered safer. Rocking chairs pose a danger of pressing into someone's foot or finger while doing the rocking motion. This is definitely not a good scenario for parents with toddlers, and even newborns. Gliders are considerably safer because the rocking, or sliding, mechanism is located at the base of the cushion. This mechanism is hidden, making it unlikely for toddlers to become curious and put their finger in just to impede the mechanism. There are comprehensive reviews for gliders as well as some rockers in the Nursery Gliderz site. It's highly recommended to parents and would-be parents to check it out as soon as possible. Lack of sleep may be a bragging right, but it's definitely not going to make parenting more efficient.
