Before selecting the current level it is important to check your welder's guideline for how much current you should use. However, if you are welding any kind of metal for the first time then the best way to check the current is to cut off some scraps and test your welding on some waste pieces to make sure that your settings are correct and able to weld the metal strongly without burning it. 2. Striking The Arc Outside The Weld Joint Hitting the arc can be extremely difficult for beginners as it required huge strength and power to strike the metal. The best way to strike an arc is to begin right where you plan to weld so that you can minimize the risk of damage. By following the right hitting strategy you can easy cut down the metal without spending too much time on striking. 3. Welding Thick Materials Materials over 1/4 inch should usually be welded in multiple phases as thick metals required strong welding. If you are trying to weld it all in a single pass by cranking up the current and moving slowly over the metal will not bond that metal properly as the only outer layer of the metal gets weld and lack to fix the metal deeply. 4. Worn Out Metal Sometimes a piece of metal gets weakened at the point that has been welded many times. Usually, if you are welding a piece that has been broken more than twice from the same point, that's an indication to replace the piece instead of welding it again and again. 5. Wrong Welding Technique Push, pull, wrong electrode angle, welding speed, and a too long arc length can lead to problems. The rate the welding speed is too slow then the metal will deposit an excess of weld metal.
